Coaches Letter
From an anonymous coach: As a coach my job is to do what is best for my team. As a gym owner my job is to do what is best from my program. Sometimes looking at things from these different angles lead to different versions of what is best. For example, the program has a…

Goodbye January
I couldn’t think of a good name for the article so you’re stuck with Goodbye January. My January will end in Providence, RI with the crew from Athletic Championships, assuming the Delta-Northwest merger hasn’t completely screwed up my flight. Dear Coaches: Judging Stunts
Dear Coaches, Now that major competition season is in full swing we felt it’s a good time to address how stunts are scored. First we’ll go over questions to ask yourself about increasing your stunt score in general, then we’ll add some observations specific for Cheersport, JAM Brands, and Varsity Brands. In general the things…

Dear Coaches: Judging
Dear Coaches, Before complaining about the results of a competition, please figure out if your complaint comes from the design of the scoring system, the implementation of the scoring system, or a lack of knowledge of the scoring system. If the complaint starts with the system itself, you need to let the event producer know.…

O-H-I-O
Columbus, OH, former home of my sister. Columbus was fun this weekend, in large part due to the comedy duo of Stephen Roberts and Chris Sipes. Florida Lee
Before leaving Mississippi I got some good news via email. I can’t go into it now, but will later. I was also asked an important question, “Why is it called a Florida Lee and not a New Orleans Lee or Louisiana Lee?” Good question coming from a 7 year old artist. From there it was…

The Innovator’s Dilemma
I’ve been slowly reading The Innovator’s Dilemma by Clayton M. Christensen. I’m pretty sure I’ve read it before because too much of what he says is too familiar for this to be my first time. The book points out listening to your customers will help your business at first, but eventually contribute to your business…
