Observations After Event 10 of 2013-14

Event 10 continued my west coast swing, this time in a slightly warmer location. Despite Thursday and Friday being challenging travel days for many of the judges, everyone made it before the first team took the floor. The event itself was fine and I felt like more teams were growing into their routines. I don’t remember thinking a team wasn’t conditioned enough to finish their routine at any point during the weekend and saw more teams truly performing their routines.

On the rules side, I have to say the California teams made me proud last weekend by not making me call a ton of violations. We just had several warnings for moving catchers and early releases, but just about everyone took the Saturday warning to heart and made corrections for Sunday.

Miscellaneous

Worlds LogoAlso, as we get closer to Worlds there are 2 reminders. First, please remember the time limit is 2:30. Some event producers allow a grace period, but Worlds doesn’t.

Routine performance time may not exceed two minutes and thirty seconds. Timing will begin with the first movement, voice, or note of music, whichever comes first. Timing will end with the last movement, last voice, or note of music, whichever comes last.

Also, don’t forget about the Gym Release Waiver requirement:

Any athlete that has competed on the floor with a team in any level from a gym (Primary Gym), during the Worlds competition season (November 1, 2014 – May 1, 2014), will have to have a USASF Gym Release Waiver signed by the owner of that gym (Primary Gym) before that athlete is eligible to compete with another gym (Secondary Gym) at the 2014 Cheerleading Worlds.

Good luck to all the teams competing this weekend. We have bid events with Spirit Fest in Connecticut and Coastal in Washington, DC along with UCA High School Nationals in Orlando.
