The Story Of The Cheerleading Twinkles Will Warm Your Heart, Or Disturb Your Brain

Forbes published The Story Of The Cheerleading Twinkles Will Warm Your Heart, Or Disturb Your Brain.

The most shocking aspect of the story, for many, might be that by all indications the 9- to 12-year-old girls seem OK, for the most part, with whatever they have to do to reach their goal of a championship. You don’t get the sense the girls were being frogmarched to the gym. Some of what you see and hear about the Twinkles might seem wrong, but then you ask, if the girls seem happy with what they’re doing, and the parents seem happy to pay the money, does that make things all right?

  1. I would like to point out that there is some inaccurate information in the article. This documentary is by Star Ledger, not Forbes.

  2. I thought it was pretty good, It showed alot of what competitive Cheer is and a little of what we would like to see a bit less, but all in all it was a pretty decent piece. I don’t think a child who does not want to do it will succeed in it because so much of what it takes at that level relies on the child’s commitment to it. What I didn’t like was some of the parents / coach reaction to a poor performance but it was a real picture and emotions run hot at that level of competition. Happy to pay the money, I would lean towards happy to try not to think about it !!
