Cheerleading Rule Changes, March 2012

Cheerleading Daily published Cheerleading Rule Changes, March 2012,.

It isn’t fair. It is not. But it was right. It had to happen. Cheerleading is going to go on. And now, maybe, cheer programs will have to find more creative ways to stand out. Maybe programs will have to focus on teaching the less experienced kids how to keep up instead of mostly focusing on teaching elite kids a standing double full. Seriously, where are all of the complaints about that discrepancy?

Maybe if they took a tumbling class or 2 they would know something. Why would a coach waste their tiem, during a TEAM practice trying to teach a few kids how to do a specific skill, when their parents can just pay for their kid to take a class.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand why this HAD to happen? The way I see it the “elite” tumblers come from gyms that have SOLID tumbling in all levels. Why are they being punished because they can teach better? If there is a study that PROVES the “elite” tumblers are a “problem” then maybe people can get behind it, until then I will continue to say this will INCREASE injuries not DECREASE injuries.

Maybe judges will finally start rewarding creativity in tumbling passes other than just make a comment because if the rules do pass they will have no option. I can not tell you the amount of times I have been told that it is a waste of time to work on different unique Level 5 tumbling passes at the elite level because it wont get recognized by the judges the same as these other skills will. I also don’t feel like this will lessen the injury rate because in my opinion most of the injuries are from learning straight fulls, straight doubles and overuse. The new rules addresses none of this so it is only a smokescreen to the true problems. I don’t agree with the rule changes, but no matter what I will adapt.

SHOW ME THE RESEARCH, … and how it was determined these specific rules would make the Sport of Cheer any Safer!

Why hasn’t this study been published? Where are the research methods published determining the need for specific rule changes?
