The AmeriCup Returns for 20th Annual Competition

UPA invites cheer and dance teams from across the nation for a first-class competition and three days of fun

Minneapolis, Minn. (25 January 2011) – Don’t miss the chance to see more than 3,000 athletes doing flips, kicks and stunts celebrating 20 years! Feb. 25-27, the United Performing Association, Inc. (UPA, http://www.upainc.net) is hosting the 20th annual AmeriCup cheer and dance competition at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The three-day event showcases more than 400 performances by cheer and dance teams of all ages and talent levels from across the country and abroad.

For 20 years, AmeriCup has given teams the opportunity to see international competition. The 3,000-plus athletes will get star treatment, superior customer service, first-class competition and plenty of entertainment in downtown Minneapolis. It’s more than a competition; it’s an experience!

UPA President and CEO Lisa Saline has earned a reputation for hosting superior events for cheer  and dance teams. “There’s something for everyone here. If a team is looking for team bonding, competition and a fun weekend… we’re it!” she said. “If they are looking for serious competition with the best-of-the-best… we’re it!”

Saline founded UPA while coaching the cheer team at St. Cloud State University in 1987. She then created AmeriCup in 1991 to give teams the chance to showcase their talents at an incredibly organized and well-run event.

The event features team and individual cheer and dance competitions for all styles. Teams have the opportunity to participate in one-on-one chats with certified judges; something that is unique to UPA events. AmeriCup also distributes over $250,000 worth of prizes and scholarships for teams and individual athletes. The best teams from the AmeriCup are awarded bids to the 2011 U.S. All-Star Federation (USASF) Cheer and Dance World Championships at Walt Disney World Resort in April.
