USASF Voting Slate 2011 Part II

The slate of items to be voted on at the NACCC meeting in January is available on the USASF website. Here is my 2 cents on each of them, Part II.

Divisions

24. Change the max number of participants for the Large Division (Yes or No)

Yes. I’m really in favor of 24 for all and we can’t get there without changing the max number of participants in Large.

25. If the max number of participants for the Large Division is changed, Choose one of the following options (A or B)

A. Large Division – 21 – 32 participants

B. Large Division – 21 – 30 participants

B. Limiting Large to 30 is closer to 24 for all.

26. Put a bottom age of 12 years old on all Senior Divisions (Yes or No)

Yes. I think all age groups should have an age range, not just a maximum.

27. Scale the maximum time limit to the Levels as follows (Yes or No)

  • Level 1 – 2:00
  • Level 2 – 2:15
  • Level 3 & 4 – 2:30
  • Level 5 & 6 – 2:45

Yes. I think more advanced teams should have more time to showcase their talent.

28. Change the current Age Level Grid for 2011-2013 (Yes or No)

Yes. I think Youth L5 and Mini L3 definitely need to be removed.

29. If the current Age Level Grid for 2011-2013 is changed, choose one of the following. (A or B)

A. Change the Age Level Grid to the following:

  • Tiny Level 1
  • Mini Levels 1 & 2
  • Youth Levels 1 thru 3
  • Junior Levels 1 thru 4
  • Senior Levels 1 thru 5
  • This would eliminate the following divisions – Mini Level 3, Youth Level 4 & 5, and Junior Level 5

B. Change the Age Level Grid to the following:

  • Tiny Level 1
  • Mini Levels 1 & 2
  • Youth Levels 1 thru 4
  • Junior Levels 1 thru 5
  • Senior Levels 1 thru 5
  • This would eliminate the following divisions – Mini Level 3 and Youth Level 5

B. I’m not certain Youth L4 and Junior L5 need to be removed at this time.

30. Change the age grid to every 3 years starting with Tiny ages 6 and under (Yes or No)

  • Tiny (6 years under)
  • Mini (9 years and under)
  • Youth (12 years and under)
  • Junior (15 years and under)
  • Senior (18 years and under) *** Except Level 5 and International Divisions

Yes. I’m pretty impartial on this one.

31. Choose one of the following (A or B)

A. Division Splits should be in the following order. COED and All-Girl followed by Small and Large number of participants

B. Division Splits should be in the following order. Small and Large number of participants followed by COED and All-Girl

B. I’m not certain on this, but am willing to try it for 2 years.

32. Reconsider the number of male athletes and maximum athletes on COED Teams (Yes or No)

No. I don’t want to vote to change these without knowing what it will be changed to.

33. Change the COED Divisions to following: (Yes or No)

  • Small COED – 20 Athletes / Up to 4 Males
  • Medium COED – 30 or 36 athletes (which ever is voted on) / up to 6 males
  • Large COED – 30 or 36 athletes (which ever is voted on) / up to 50% males (15 or 18)
  • This eliminates Semi- Limited COED and redefines Limited Coed (4 males / 36 total)

Yes. This eliminates division.

34. Offer Youth level 4 and Youth level 5 – small divisions only (Yes or No)

  • This would eliminate Large Youth Level 4 and Large Youth Level 5

No. If Youth L4 & L5 are going to be offered I don’t think they should have a small restriction.

35. Change the current requirements for a Small Gym (Yes or No)

No. I don’t want to vote for a change without know what will be changed.

36. Change requirement from 10 teams needed in a division to create small gym divisions to a new number (Yes or No)

No. The only options are to reduce the number and I think we should take steps to get the average number of teams per division above 10.

37. If the requirement of 10 teams to create small gym divisions is changed, Choose one of the following options (A or B)

A. There must be 4 teams in a division to split into small gym and non small gym divisions.

B. There must be 5 teams in a division to split into small gym and non small gym divisions.

B. I want the average number of teams per division to increase.

38. Modify Skill progressions for standing tumbling in Level 4 and Level 5 to one skill level lower than running tumbling (Yes or No)

No. I think standing and running tumbling skills allowed should be the same.

39. Eliminate Youth Level 5 (Yes or No)

Yes. There aren’t enough Youth L5 teams to support this division.

40. If Youth Level 5 is not eliminated, have Youth Level 5 follow these RESTRICTED division guidelines IE.Tumbling: All skills up to 1 flipping and 1 twisting rotation allowed. Twisting flips may only be performed if preceded by a back handspring(s) or a round off. No bounding skills in immediate combination with twisting flip. During a full twisting tumbling skill, no trick other than a twist is allowed and both feet must land and finish on the performing surface. No Standing Full’s. No tumbling is allowed after a full twisting skill. IE. Tosses: Tosses may not exceed 3 tricks (i.e. hitch kick full’s, switch kick full’s, kick doubles) (Yes or No)

Yes. I’d prefer to eliminate Youth L5 and Restricted divisions, but if we are going to keep them I think Youth Restricted makes sense.

41. IF Youth Level 5 is not eliminated – No Double Full: Baskets, Tumbling, or Stunts at Youth Level 5 (Yes or No)

No. I prefer each level have the same rules, regardless of age.

42. IF Youth 5 is eliminated, Create Junior RESTRICTED Level 5 using the same guidelines as Senior RESTRICTED Level 5 (Yes or No)

No. I don’t think Junior L5 & Junior Restricted are both needed. Most of the athletes that would be on a Youth L5 team would be able to be on a Junior L5 team regardless of which items on this slate pass.

43. No tosses in Tiny and Mini divisions regardless of level (Yes or No)

No. I’d prefer to keep the rules within a level the same, regardless of age.

44. Delete Jr COED Level 3, 4, and 5 divisions and put males/females for all junior division (Yes or No)

Yes. This would help increase the average number of teams per division.

45. Create International OPEN Level 4 (Ages 17 and up) (Yes or No)

No. I’m in favor of fewer divisions, not more.

46. Delete Semi-Limited COED Division (Yes or No)

Yes. I’m in favor of fewer divisions.

Eligibility

47. An All-Star program is defined as having one EIN (Tax ID) (Yes or No)

Yes. One business as defined by the IRS should be considered One Program as defined by the USASF.

48. A USASF Season is defined as one calendar year starting from the Age Eligibility cut-off date (Yes or No)

No. I’m not sure what advantages are gained by defining a season, but am interested in hearing what they are.

49. A USASF Athlete member may only cheer for one program per USASF season, unless officially released by their Primary USASF gym. (Yes or No)

No. I like the general idea, but don’t think it’s enforceable yet and would prefer it says “A USASF Athlete may only Competewith one program per USASF Season, unless officially released by their Primary USASF gym” so there is no controversy over the definition of “cheer for”.

50. Create a universal date for Age Eligibility, Gym Membership, and Athlete Membership (Yes or No)

Yes. Using one date for everything makes sense.

51. Change the eligibility birth date from August 31st (Yes or No)

Yes. I think there should be a Universal date for Age Eligibility, Gym Membership, and Athlete Membership and I think May 31st is the best option for a Universal date.

52. If the eligibility birth date from August 31st is changed, Choose one of the following options (A or B)

A. Change the eligibility birth date to August 1st

B. Change the eligibility birth date to May 31st

B. I think there should be a Universal date for Age Eligibility, Gym Membership, and Athlete Membership and I think May 31st is the best option for a Universal date.
