Varsity: Nationals School Spirit Day Is 9-10-10!

Cheerleaders are encouraged to dedicate four hours to community service leading up to National School Spirit Day!

Memphis, Tenn., (August 10, 2010)—The countdown has begun to the second annual National School Spirit Day. Cheerleaders across the United States have been encouraged to perform up to 4 hours of community service in the week leading up to September 10, 2010.

If every cheerleader that attended a Varsity camp this summer performs 4 hours of community service during the week of September 6-10, cheerleaders can contribute more than 1 million hours total across the country.

9-10-10 has been designated as a day of service for school spirit teams. Varsity, the worldwide leader in organized cheerleading, has asked cheerleaders to be visible leaders in their communities by performing works of service in their schools and neighborhoods.

“Cheerleaders deserve recognition for all of the causes they support all year long,” says Nicole Lauchaire, Director of Corporate Brand Marketing and New Media for Varsity, whose camp organizations have been promoting the service initiative throughout the summer. “We already know that cheerleaders are generous in volunteering their time to help others, and we know this official day of service gives everyone a chance to appreciate their efforts as well.

Varsity’s camp associations, the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), and United Cheerleaders Association (USA), have encouraged the more than 300,000 cheerleaders they instructed this summer to participate in the 2010 National School Spirit Day.

Participants in National School Spirit Day can visit the website nationalschoolspiritday.org to log their hours, describe their contribution and enter to win a School Spirit Prize Pack for their school, including school supplies from Carolina Pad, a practice mat from Ross Athletic Supply and spirit materials from Varsity Spirit Fashions.
