Lent begins next week and I think I’m going to give up using my iPhone as a phone in favor of this. My iPhone will probably still be around to use as a camera and other things that work in airplane mode, but wouldn’t be used on my cellular network.
I should have titled this I Give Up. Every year I give up something for Lent. In the past it’s been red meat (and I really like my burgers and a steak), alcohol (and you know my love of bourbon), and a variety of other things. The hard part isn’t the day to day avoidance of something, it’s the random craving for something after a long day, after the days that have worn out your willpower.
This year I decided to give something up and add something to my life. I’m not going to put what they are in this, but if you’re around me much they probably won’t be very difficult to figure out.
If you are participate by adding or giving something up, good luck. I hope you stay strong it leads to improvement in your life.
Lent started today, beginning a period of 40-something days in which a noticeable item is removed or added to my life. This year my 40-something days will be without alcohol. I’ve done this several times in the past, along with giving up red meat and carbonated beverages. I also had one year in which I only ate salads when not eating at home.
Why 40-something days? Apparently of the 47 inclusive days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday you don’t count either the 7 Sundays or Saturdays, depending on which you consider the 7th day.
Lent is here. This year I’ve giving up social networks including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and Fierce Board. There are some things that automatically post to these sites that will continue, but there won’t be any manual use of these sites.
Happy Easter Everyone! I’m spending Easter with my parents and having bacon for breakfast. I’ve already sent a Happy Easter tweet and logged into Facebook to see that I have a lot of messages.
