USA Today published 6 Things Black Men Tell Their Sons About Traffic Stops, following recent events in Louisiana and Minnesota. After a recent conversation with a friend, I sent the article to him. Here’s his response:
I found the first 3 things actually what I would tell my kids and I try and do during a traffic stop. Maybe it is the logical side of me but I always assumed any sudden moves would create someone being antsy. I guess the difference is, being white, I have a lot more leeway in what I am allowed to do and mess up.
4-6 were definitely things I don’t think about. To me those 3 things, especially #5, are where the large difference lies.
