Body Mass Index

Last month I went to the doctor and he said I’m obese according to the BMI. Not only obese, but around 60 pounds away from optimal and 20 pounds away from just being overweight. I’m well aware I’m no longer in the shape I was in the last time I competed, but needing to lose a quarter of me to be in the optimal range seems a bit much. Twenty pounds, sure, and I’ll get on that. Maybe even 30, but I don’t see 60 happening or being a good thing.

The BMI and I have much different ideas of what I should look like and that has me wondering which has the wrong perspective. Have I grown too accustomed to the results of fast food and developed a warped sense of what overweight is, or is the BMI right in thinking I need to be able to get into a pair of skinny jeans?
