Who Dat

I really couldn’t think of a title for this one, so I chose one the would make Marcel, David, and Keaton happy. Congratulations to the Saints on their SuperBowl victory.

Atlanta was fun, the week since hasn’t been nearly as fun. CheerSport, what can you say. It’s undoubtedly the largest, and possibly the greatest cheerleading competition of the year. It ran smooth, as it has every year I have judged. The Dartfish system didn’t do much for me this year, but the potential it has can aid in more accurate judging. The trip back to Lexington was fine. I got to watch 24 and the end of the Kansas/Texas basketball game before things started going downhill. To put it subtly, I just say from Monday night until Wednesday morning I spent more of my awake time puking than I did not puking. Since I spent so much time sleeping and puking there isn’t much to write about.

Wednesday I went to Mississippi, which wasn’t the smartest idea, but I made it. Now it’s time to talk Miguel and Kelly out of some Mississippi State versus Kentucky basketball tickets for Tuesday.

Florida Lee

Before leaving Mississippi I got some good news via email. I can’t go into it now, but will later. I was also asked an important question, “Why is it called a Florida Lee and not a New Orleans Lee or Louisiana Lee?” Good question coming from a 7 year old artist.

From there it was on to Chattanooga, TN for Athletic Championships with Jason Keogh and the Elzas. We aren’t supposed to say much about the competition so I’ll just say I was glad my days didn’t start at the crack of dawn and my panel was fun. There were a few people I haven’t seen in years and a few I met for the first time. At this point I need to take a moment to thank Brian Elza, for reasons clear to him, but few others. I also have to say if you ever get a chance to have a conversation with, judge with, or listen to Chris Sipes, you should take advantage of it. He is one of the funniest people I’ve been around in a long time, and possibly ever.

I’m now back in Lexington, catching up on everything and working on Aneris. Today has proven to be strange. A good friend got some extremely bad news. She’s strong enough to handle it, but is going to need a shoulder to lean on for a few days.

Just for the record, it’s a Fleur-de-lis.

Deep South Cheer

I’ve spent the past week in Jackson, MS. The tripped was planned so I judge Deep South Cheer Nationals, but I came early and stayed for a while to hang out with a few friends. David Hanbery and I had a chance to talk about 2 projects we will be working on. One with Farid Louis and the other with Marcel Hammond and Chris Russell. I’m sure at some point more people will get involved with both, but we’re going to set the foundation.

Josh Jones returned to Jackson with his fiance, Kat, and we got a chance to catch up, have an adult beverage, and talk about Kat’s project, CollegeCheerGuide.com. Josh judged with us, but has also been settling into his new “real” job. Miguel Sanchez, the new cheerleading coach at Mississippi State, judged with us and had his teams perform before heading to UCA College Nationals. We also took a trip to Starkville to see their friends and family performance. I want to wish them luck this weekend (but still want my Cats to win).

I also got to judge with Niel, Sara, and Lana. I’ve judged with Niel several times with Deep South and JAMfest, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen him. I’ve known Sara and Lana since they were in high school, through their time with Inside Cheerleading in Atlanta, and back to Jackson. The next stop is Chattanooga with Elza and Keogh.
