Kentucky is 5-6

Kentucky convincingly beat Charlotte, 58-10, to raise our record to 5-6. It was our highest scoring game combined with the game in which we gave up the fewest points. Louisville will visit Commonwealth Stadium in what will be our last game of the season unless we win. Beating Louisville would make us bowl eligible and 500 for the regular season. Of course more importantly it would mean we beat Louisville.

On the national scene, the undefeated list is down to 2 after Ohio State, Oklahoma State, and Houston fell to Michigan State, Baylor, and Connecticut respectively. The only teams remaining on the list are:

  • ACC – Clemson
  • Big 10 – Iowa

Looking at those controlling their own destiny in finishing in the top 4, I believe we are down to Clemson, Iowa, Alabama, Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Florida. I have 6 teams because conference championship games would matchup Iowa v. Michigan State and Alabama v. Florida if those teams win next weekend.

Notre Dame is very close to controlling their own destiny, but I think a 1 loss conference champion Oklahoma would pass Notre Dame with the committee’s stated preference toward conference champions even though Notre Dame’s only loss is to the top team and Notre Dame beat the team that gave Oklahoma their only loss. I also think November losses by Baylor, Ohio State, and Oklahoma State will put them on the outside even if they finish with only 1 loss. Any of them would need help and luck to find their way into the playoff.
